Mountains and Valleys

Welcome to the Seven Mountains! Our region is located on the northern end of the Middle Rhine Valley. For many people, the narrow valley with its steeps, vineyards and numerous castles is the classical Rhine landscape par excellence, and the epitome of the romantic Rhine. Also the Seven Mountains Nature Park has its romantic sites, its wine, its legends and above all its beautiful natural landscape. On the following pages, you can visit the seven most famous hills which gave the Seven Mountains Nature Park its name: the Drachenfels with the medieval castle ruin, the Wolkenburg, the Petersberg with the hotel, the Nonnenstromberg, the highest mountain of all, the Ölberg, the Lohrberg and the Löwenburg with another medieval castle ruin.

Although we speak of the "Seven Mountains", in reality there are around 40 hills, and there are more beautiful sites to see, for instance the monastery of Heisterbach, the Nightingale Valley (Nachtigallental in German) and the Rosenau mountain with yet another medieval castle ruin. In addition to the broad hiking trails through the Seven Mountains, we also find narrow paths and places where you can forget everyday life - almost enchanted places in the forest, where you still feel the magic of dwarves and dragons.

Today, "Father" Rhine flows right through the united Europe, and various languages are spoken on his banks. When you hike through the Seven Mountains on a beautiful day, you may catch phrases from other hikers in other languages. I am sure that "Father" Rhine is happy with that.

Of course, I can only show you a small part and hope that I can get you in the mood for a hike through the Seven Mountains. Or maybe you just get an idea of the region where your ancestors may be from. The navigation above takes you all around. The film "All 7" takes you to the "classic" Seven Mountains. Then there are a picture gallery and special theme tours, "Spring", "Summer" and "Autumn" in the Seven Mountains, "Medieval Castles" and "Away in Dragon Land". Enjoy!
